Generic Funding Appeal Letter: Sample 3 (EDGE Corps)

(Month Day, Year)

Dear Friend,

I am writing to tell you about an exciting opportunity!  The Navigators have invited me to be a campus missionary with EDGE Corps for the next year or two at [Campus Name] in [City, State].  God has blessed me with this opportunity, and I’m writing to invite you to partner with me in this endeavor.  I’ll need a team of friends to join me in ministry through prayer and financial support.  I start [Start Date]!

The Navigators is an interdenominational Christian missions organization.  They minister on over 164 campuses here in the U.S., and they have staff in 108 countries around the world.

Let me tell you how this all began.  [Personalized Paragraphs – Example:  When I arrived at the University of Vermont, I was very unsure of what my future would look like; maybe I would pursue athletic training or a thriving business career. Even though I was raised in a Christian home, serving Christ was not my ultimate goal.  I was a young college student full of questions in a university community that seemed to have no legitimate answers.  However, God was working through all of this.  At the start of my junior year I was placed on staff with the only other male Resident Adviser at UVM who was involved with The Navigators.  What followed has been amazing.

Jesus changed my life, and I am excited to see Him work in others through me.  Over the past few years Christ has lead me through a process of brokenness, repentance, restoration, and awe. He has given me a passion to invest in the lives of other men and women who are willing to seek truth.  It is exciting to see students mature into the men and women God has created them to be.]

On campus, I’ll serve with The Navigators Collegiate ministry called EDGE Corps (Evangelism, Discipleship,Growth, Experience). EDGE Corps is recent college graduates who have chosen to minister one to two years on college campuses with a peer team, led by an experienced campus missionary staff. Our job is to interact with students regularly, build relationships, lead Bible studies, disciple believers, and tell students about the good news of Jesus Christ. As recent graduates, The Navigators feel we will have a unique hearing among students!

As you may know, college is a unique time with new experiences and tough decisions.  Many students face tons of choices, lots of pressure to live without God, and increased temptations of sin that can damage their lives.  With EDGE Corps, we want to help them find life in Jesus Christ!

The Navigators also see the 16 million students studying on campus this fall as a strategic segment of our population. Fewer than one fifth of these students have a relationship with God. Some also come from other countries to study here. In that way, the nations are at our doorstep on campus! The Navigators want to reach out to all students for Christ. And after students graduate, they often become leaders in their workplaces and communities here and around the world for the Lord.

My first assignment is to assemble a team of prayer and financial partners.  I’ll need dozens of friends who will pray faithfully and give joyfully.  The next few weeks I’ll spend raising the funds needed to completely underwrite my ministry for this coming school year.  For example, I’ve been told I’ll need gifts of all sizes, including several in the $25 to $200 per month range. My funding must be in place by [Start Date] in order to be on campus this fall and to greet students arriving on campus!  Will you prayerfully consider joining my monthly partnership team?

Some of you might prefer giving an annual or special gift to help launch my first year of ministry.  I’ll need several anchor gifts of $1,000 to $2,500 or more as well. Would you please pray that God will go before me in this adventure and that I will have the faith to trust Him to provide.

I will contact you in the next week or so to see if we can get together so I can explain more completely my vision and needs.  As you read this, will you pray for me as I embark on this adventure?

Jesus observed in Matthew 9: 36-37 that “the harvest is great, but the workers are few.”  So many college students are spiritually hungry and dissatisfied with life.  I want to be one of the “workers” and point them to Jesus Christ!  Will you please pray about joining me in this exciting opportunity?
