Year-End Appeal Letter: Preparing Your YE Appeal
December is the biggest giving month of the year in the U.S. Many people prefer to give once or twice a year instead of monthly. Since many of your friends will probably give somewhere in the next two months, invite them to give to your ministry! If you don’t, those dollars will likely go to another organization or missionary.
-Funding appeals must be paper letters, not electronic.
-Set a date to write the letter before November 15.
-Reread the chapter on funding letters from Scott Morton’s book, Funding Your Ministry
, or view sample letters and tips at www.navigatormpd.org
(login: navigators, password: navigators).
-Include a moving story of something God has done in your ministry recently.
-Make the focus of your letter what God is doing in people’s lives and your ministry vision—not your budgetary needs or deficit.
-State your exact funding goal.
-Remind people when (by December 30) and how to give (include a commitment card and envelope, but also highlight online giving and NavDirect).
-Mail between November 25 and December 3.
-Call 20 recipients in mid-December to personally invite them to give.
-Thank people as soon as possible when you see their gift arrive.
